Somatic Therapy + Body Work
Somatic therapy is a holistic therapeutic approach that incorporates and acknowledges the role of the body (and body/mind connection) in addressing stress, trauma, chronic pain, processing, and our day-to-day experience navigating the world.
This is work our ancestors have known and utilized since our creation through song, dance, touch, and ceremony that many of us have lost connection to. In addition to relearning how to connect with these kinship practices - incorporating mindfulness, breath-work, movement, dance, touch, and physical manipulation into therapy can allow us to become more attuned to our bodies and increase our ability to process and heal.
In working with individuals whose bodies are often politicized due to their gender, race, disability, etc - who may struggle with proprioception and embodiment due to their neurotype, or otherwise struggle to feel safe within their bodies due to dysphoria, pain, or trauma - somatic work can be revolutionary for both individual and collective healing and transformation.
