Who We Are

Established in 2025, Cedar Moon Therapy and Somatics, is the next chapter in our attempt to create a truly safe and supportive space for clients, comrads, and colleagues alike to be heard, heal, recover, and grow.

We are cultivating self-compassion, providing liberation-minded affirming care to clients, in an adaptive and accessible space and guiding colleagues from burnout out and survival mode to abundant practice.

Cedar Moon while also a not-so subtle play on another tree + light source name, is an intentional calling-in of our intentions for this space -

Cedar (giizhik in Ojibwemoowin) has significant medicinal and practical uses and is one of our four sacred medicines used in ceremony for protection, purification, and healing.

Moon (mashkikiwi-giizis or giizis in Ojibwemoowin) refers to the moon as “medicine sun” in reference to the role of the moon in healing and medicine.

Accessibility info

Air Quality and Illness Precautions

Our office is strictly a mask required (KN94/N95 or equivalent) space for all able to mask when not eating or drinking. Free masks are available on site if needed.

High quality air purifiers and ceiling fans run 24/7 in our waiting and treatment rooms and windows can open for fresh air exchange. Air is cycled between all client sessions as an additional precaution.

We also maintain a scent free environment to the best of our ability and ask that guests refrain from wearing cologne/perfumes and strong fragrances to their sessions.

Parking/Transit

There is metered street parking along Church and surrounding streets, included several accessible spaces. There is also paid surface parking behind the Evanston Public library, which is a block to the east (towards the lake).

The Davis St CTA and Metra stop is about one block away. There are limited bicycle racks in the area and clients are welcome to bring bikes up to my waiting room if desired.

Building/Office Access

Our office is located on the same block as Collectivo. Please enter via the accessible entrance on Church St. beneath the 708 Church St. awning. Once inside, please take the elevator (to your left) or the stairs (straight ahead) to the second floor. Once on the second floor, head to your left and then left again at the corner. You will find my office, suite 212, just past the men's restroom on the left-hand side of the hall. The second floor is a circle, so if you get lost, just keep going and you’ll find us!

Please enter through the first door to my waiting room and make yourself comfortable, I'll come out to greet you, as soon as I'm ready for our session to begin. You can help yourself to tea, water, snacks, sexual health supplies, or free library items if desired.

Wheelchair/Mobility Aid/Size Accessibility

Doorways - All doorways are wide enough for standard wheel chair access. The front building door has a push button for automatic opening and the elevator will get you to the second floor. All second floor exterior doorways including the restrooms have manual door knobs or push plates and open inwards.

Restrooms - Shared restrooms have at least one large accessible stall with handrails. Restroom sinks can be accessed while seated but soap and paper towels may be out of reach, however, we have portable soap and paper towels that can be brought to restrooms as needed.

Seating - Waiting room and treatment space both offer a variety of seating options including sturdy sofas, arm chairs, and chairs without arms. We also have floor cushions, mats, and rugs if sitting or laying on the floor is desired. As well, as several active seating options including a sensory swing, yoga ball, and rolling stool.

Treatment Tables - Our current massage treatment table holds 600 lbs of weight and pressure and is a few inches wider and longer than standard. We also have a modular sofa that folds flat to the size of a double bed and serves as an alternative treatment table for those who prefer or need a lower/wider/softer space. We also have the ability to work on the floor (with mats/cushions/blankets) if needed or preferred. Treatment spaces, linens, and tools are always wiped, washed, and sanitized as appropriate between use.

Gender Access - Restrooms

Our shared office restrooms require a key for entry and are gendered male and female. Both have 3+ individual stalls with doors. The mens restroom has one open urinal that is rarely used. Clients and guests are encouraged to use the restroom they feel most comfortable in. If a single stall restroom is preferred there are two available at Collectivo (down stairs and ½ block away).

Diaper/changing space can be accommodated within our office if needed.

Sensory Accessibility

Lighting - We only utilize warm, soft bulbs in our space. Waiting area lighting is overhead and dimmable. Treatment area lighting consists of windows with curtains (natural light) and several lamps.

Sound - We use a true fan white noise machine in our waiting area for privacy and often have low volume bird song or lo-fi playing as well. All can be adjusted if needed.

Movement - Movement is welcomed and encouraged as needed. Clients may sit wherever comfortable and active seating options are available (swing, yoga ball, rolling stool, floor, etc)

Fidgets / Hand work - Many of our clients (and clinicians) need to keep their hands busy during session. In addition to a variety of fidget toys and sensory tools, we have games (board, card, nintendo switch, puzzles) and art supplies available for use. You are welcome to bring your own projects and fidgets as well.
